MY OFFICIAL FAREWELL MESSAGE

TL;DR: I’m quitting and shutting everything down…but I hope to eventually return and restart my author career fresh—providing books for not just the YA audience, but kids & youth as well! Keep reading for more details, and my new logo reveal so you know what to look for if/when I return.
I’m doing a little better now, but still find myself unable to write (most of the time that I attempt to), or manage the business stuff. I’ve come to realize it’s not just an external problem, but also an internal one, and that’s why I can’t push past it or work around it. I will keep working on physical health improvements, and will likely also add therapy to my recovery plan and see if I can get to the cause of the issue and address it.
All this means that I’m faced with the decision that I’ve been fighting for the last few years—throwing in the towel. Not just not releasing anything, but also removing my books from distribution (since they’re costing me more than I’m making, especially as far as mental energy goes).
Everything is getting shut down.
My heart hurts with this decision, since I’ve been an author for basically all of my adult life, but it also brings relief. This career is a beast. It demands so much of me that there simply isn’t much left (though I will readily admit that I was my own worst enemy for a lot of those troubles, stumbling through everything without really knowing what I was doing). But I can’t give it anything else. Y’all, my brain is fried.
But I’ve also never been able to fully abandon writing & publishing in the past, no matter how much I wanted/needed relief. So as long as I can get my stuff sorted well enough, I think the chances are very good that I’ll be back!
I do expect to be gone for A WHILE. There’s a lot to fix and get in order, with my physical & mental health, family, life stuff, debt, AND setting up systems so that my business can restart and not demand everything that I have and am. And, you know, I can do things correctly the first time, which will make a WORLD of difference!
I truly hope that I’ll publish again, and be much more reliable and consistent once I’m back!
SO WHAT’S THE PLAN, EXACTLY?
Crystal Dawning will not be published elsewhere (in any format) until I return, and the deluxe hardcover is just getting the one print run, and then won’t be available again.
Otherwise, I’ll be working to get through the rest of my on-hand stock for books and swag (then I’ll close the website), closing out of my social media accounts completely, stop doing events once I’m out of books that I already have in stock, unpublishing my books from all sites (except perhaps the couple that I have on Yearn), and emails will be sent only regarding this announcement and the Kickstarter until I’m back.
Basically, I’ll be a ghost from now until my Kickstarter launches. Then I’ll put in as much effort as I can so the campaign can be as successful as possible. Once it’s fulfilled, I’ll truly vanish. (Though I think I’ll keep my FB account and just turn it into a reader account rather than an author one so I can still hang out with all my lovely reader & author friends!)
When I’m getting ready to return, my Early Reader teams will be the first to know. (You can apply to join here.) I’ll have them help make sure the Crystal Dragon Saga (or whatever series I end up writing first) is fully ready, and then I’ll restart all the business stuff and do a wide release the FULL series! No more long waits, uncertainty, or confusion. ❤️
And from there, I plan to keep launching a full series at a time—so the next one would (most likely) be the fully expanded Blessed With A Curse series, and then something brand-new!!!
Once I’m publishing again, early readers will be able to read the books as I go, and I’ll probably have a Patreon (or similar but hosted on my own website or something) where supporters will also get to read things prior to the series launch! And after a series releases, it’ll (potentially) get the pretty, fancy Kickstarter makeover for omnibuses and/or boxed sets!
I will ALSO be adding Children’s and Middle Grade books to my offerings! Families rejoice—Fantasy adventures from me will truly be for ALL ages!! (0-17+ since there’s no cap on age to read a YA book especially.) You can join my email list for YA, kid’s books, or both! This will be the only dependable way for you to see when I’m back, so please join the list! https://katiecherry.eo.page/signup
Nothing is set in stone, of course, and all of those plans are based on the assumption that I’ll be able to return, which isn’t a guarantee.
I’m so very grateful for each of you. You’re the reason I’ve been able to do this for as long as I have, and a very big part of why I long to return!
May you always fly high with dragons, my dear bookwyrms! ❤️

PS—
EVERYTHING in my store is discounted AS FAR AS POSSIBLE! Help me clear it all out while also grabbing LIMITED goodies at prices that are honestly way too cheap! (The profit margin on everything is close to 0, sometimes negative, but I don’t care. Just need it all gone.)

Stay strong 💪 and true to yourself. I’ve always told my soldiers that even the strongest steel can bend, and the strongest warriors must, at times, take a knee, only to rest, regroup, refit, and then rejoin the fight. Do what must be done for you and yours, and when you’re ready, jump back in. Many thanks for your encouragement and support over the years. Let me know if I can ever assist.

Thank you, Allen! That is exactly what this is. 🙂 And I’m really looking forward to returning stronger and more stable than ever, utilizing what I’ve already learned to do all this in a more…cohesive way!
