The time has come, and yes, it is bittersweet.
The Dragon Blood Trilogy is no more. Why? Here are a few reasons I decided to make this move for my business. In short, it is to improve my branding and make sure readers know what to expect from me. This series doesn’t fit my branding, so it can make for a poor reader experience if they are new to me and this is the first series they read by me.
- These books are novellas. Fantasy readers tend to favor longer books, so these 1-hour reads could lead to disappointment.
- These are written in third person (and past tense), while my other books are in first person (present tense). This can also make it difficult for readers when they check out my other books and find that they aren’t written how they expected.
- They were written for ME before anyone else, so few people can relate to the heroine. MANY people found her unrealistic, while only those dealing with chronic pain appreciated her.
- Very few people who read book 1 would read through to books 2 and 3. This is in large part, besides the point above, because book 1 was written to be a standalone. I didn’t decide to expand the story until later. (AKA the sales on this series are very very poor, on top of causing potential reader disappointment, though that’s the primary reason for this move.)
- The writing quality is lower than I’d like, but I don’t have time to give these books a full rewrite like I’m doing with the Crystal Dragon Saga.

So the time finally came; we’ve reached the end of the year, so the books are unpublished. I am leaving the paperbacks up for now in case anyone was late to this message (I’ve been terrible about updating my blog here, I’m so sorry! I will be better at that going forward!), and what’s left in my store will be first-come-first-served and once stock is out, I won’t be restocking them. As of now, there are 3 copies of book 1 and 2 omnibus copies left.
Thank you for your support in this decision, which I know isn’t one that you’ve likely seen before. Hopefully the points above help explain why this is a helpful move for my business, built on data-driven decisions for the health of my long-term career. But if you have any further questions, feel free to comment below! I am an open book. 🙂
Happy New Year! May 2024 bring all the blessings you are in need of!
